The One - Tony Robert

When we first begun, it started out as fun
But I soon realised that maybe you’re the one
Both been round the block, so came as such a shock
Have I struck gold? You could be the one
We’re partners in crime, there’s no reason nor rhyme
It’s just that you are the one
There for each other, much more than just lovers
Because you really are the one
I felt from the start, deep down in my heart
That you must be the one
Long for you to be my bride, to always be by my side
Because when all’s said and done
You are the one.

Real? - Tony Robert

Today's poem is a "Golden Oldie" and was originally published here in February 2013.

Nerves a-jumping, heart a-pumping
Why do I feel this way?
Could she be the one for me?
Maybe I’ll know someday

Play it cool, act the fool
Don’t let my feelings show
It’s okay to feel this way
Just don’t let others know

The way I feel is no big deal
It happens everyday
People fall, there’s no rule
To guide us in this way

See pain in her eyes, no surprise
Her hearts been broken in two
She needs to know, I won’t hurt her so,
What do I need to do?

I feel elated, haven’t even dated
But I think that she’s the one
I’m not sure how, to make it happen now
Scare her and she’ll be gone

Take it slow and let her know
The way I really feel
I won’t rush it or try to push it
Could this be for real?

Close My Eyes - Tony Robert

Today's poem is a "Golden Oldie" and was originally published here in September 2012

Close my eyes see your face
Reach for you, just empty space
Nothing that side of the bed
Empty pillow without your head

Dream you’re there holding me tight
Snuggled up to me in the night
Think I feel your lovely touch
Perhaps I’m hoping a bit too much

Love so much for it to be true
Want so much to be with you
Start to feel you slipping away
No matter what I do or say

Suddenly awake looking round the place
Feel the tears rolling down my face
Realise it’s just a very bad dream
Try to make sense of what it means

Where do we go from here?
Decisions that I really fear
Hope we can ride out the storm
That your love will keep me warm

Love for us to grow old together
To be with you forever and ever
To love, to care, to cherish you
That’s all I really want to do.

Time To Live Again - Tony Robert

Today's poem is a "Golden Oldie" and was originally published here in August 2012

How did all this happen? You sometimes sit and ponder.
Your life’s been turned upside down, is it any wonder?

You want to start your life again, to leave the past behind
So many loose ends to tie up, many new joys to find

You’ve so many memories, some happy, some so sad
You can’t seem to forget them, some good, some so bad

You always do what’s best for everyone and leave yourself ‘til last
Time to put yourself first, instead of living in the past

You must start to look forward now, grab the chance with both hands
There’s happiness for you right now, time for dreams and plans

You must be brave, you must be strong
Go for it, you can’t go wrong

Time for positive thinking, put aside those doubts and fears
Time for smiling and happy thoughts, forget the pain and tears

You can do it; you’ve got yourself through it
Time to live again

Lazy Sunday - Tony Robert

Today's poem is a "Golden Oldie" and was originally published here in July 2012

Another lazy Sunday morning
And I’m lying in my bed.
Suddenly with no warning
You’re running through my head

Try to shake away the thought
But still the images persist
Think I’m falling, must be caught
But you’re so hard to resist

Said I wouldn’t do it
Go through all that pain
Hearts been shattered, life in tatters
Could I take the risk again?

I’m acting like a love sick kid
You’ve really touched my heart
When we meet like we just did
I never want to part.

Know I should be old and wise
But you make me feel so young
For me you were a big surprise
Haven’t felt this way for so long

At last I’m looking forward
Instead of living in the past
I’m full of optimism
Just hope that it will last.

Lonely Me? - Tony Robert

Today's poem is a "Golden Oldie" and was originally published here in June 2012

6.45 alarm rings in my head,
Time to get my arse out of bed.
There’s a brand new day to start,
But do I really have the heart?

And so another day begins,
Somebody loses, somebody wins.
Me? I’ll be happy to just break even
Seems I arrive as lady luck’s leaving.

Paint on my smile, forget the pain,
Maybe today I’ll find love again.
Kid myself that I don’t care,
When all I want is a love to share.

Laugh and joke, I’m everyone’s mate,
Try to pretend that I’m doing great.
But deep down inside my heart,
I feel I’m slowly falling apart.

“Keep your chin up” I hear myself say,
Cheering up others throughout the day.
But I know when I’m home and close the door,
I’m all alone just like before.

And so I drag myself to bed,
A hundred thoughts in my head.
I’ve so many friends so how can it be?
That I always end up lonely me

Tony Robert

Really do! - Tony Robert

Close my eyes, thinking of you
And all the great things that you do
That keeps me coming back for more
Never been in love like this before

You are so very special to me
Love you so much, can’t you see?
I’d do whatever you desire
Your love has set my heart on fire

As I lay here in bed alone
Listening to your voice on the phone
Wish you were here for me to kiss
At this time of night it’s what I miss

Maybe one day my dream will come true
I’ll go to bed, cuddle up to you
When I’d wake, I’d hug you tight
You’d help me make it through the night

Sometimes it’s difficult for me to find
The words to say what’s on my mind
To express the way I feel for you
I love you so much, I really do

Dad - Tony Robert

You were always there when I was small
Questions I’d ask you knew it all
As I made my way through school
You told me not to act the fool
Hold up your head, give them a grin
That way in life you’ll always win
Words of wisdom you always had
That’s what made you special Dad

Now you’re gone I think of you
And wonder what you would do
If in my place you were stood
Would you still be right and good?
Sometimes think that I’ve messed up
Been a failure through the years
Now my kids have gone and grown up
I still have doubts and fears

Know you weren’t the perfect Dad
But you always had my respect
Loved you even when you were bad
Your children you’d never neglect
Just wish I’d told you how I felt
Before you passed away
Loved you then, miss you now
Every single day

Mum 1932-1965 - Tony

You left us on the 15th of May,
When you were suddenly taken away
A young family left to cope
With only love, faith and hope

Found it very hard to take in,
Tried to remember how it had been
Only a kid of six years old,
Didn’t believe what I was told

“Your mummy’s gone to heaven son”,
I just wanted to cry and run
To hide and hope that you would seek,
To find me mum, I felt so weak

We tried to live a normal life,
We had no mum, Dad lost a wife
Stuck together just like glue,
Hard times but we made it through

Always there for each other,
My Dad, my sister and my brothers
Grew up and went our different ways,
But we never forget those early days

It’s forty eight years since that day,
When the angels came and took you away
But still I think of you and wonder how,
You’d think of us if you were here now

I try my best to make you proud,
Find silver linings in every cloud
It’s hard sometimes to carry on,
Trying to be happy, full of fun

Miss you now more than ever,
Know one day we’ll be together
I needed you then, miss you still,
And I know I always will

Tony Robert

Each Other - Tony Robert

This wasn’t supposed to happen
Just didn’t see it coming
Friend to rely on, shoulder to cry on
Thought there might be something

This can’t be wrong, feels so right
When we are together
Soon discovered, we were lovers
Hope it lasts forever

Drawn together, so much in common
Both seen hard times
Find it hard to trust again
Risk the heartache and more pain
Just didn’t see the signs

Feels real hard when we’re apart
Miss each other so much
Long to be, just you and me
To love, to kiss, to touch

One day we’ll look back on these times
With all the fuss and bother
Count the tears and all the fears
But we’ll always have each other

The Years Fly By - Tony Robert

I sit and wonder where time goes?
As the years fly by.
Had my best times I suppose
But carry on, I’ll try.

Remember when I was young
And times there seem a-plenty?
Suddenly I’m pushing fifty plus
Wishing I was twenty.

Oh to be young and full of fun
Without a single care
Now I’ve got a job to run
And I’m losing all my hair.

I used to be so slim and fit
With long hair and denim flares
Now I feel like an old git
Struggling up the stairs

Always played a lot of sport
Was as fit as a fiddle
Now my breaths are very short
And I’m expanding round the middle

Best look forward, straight ahead
Keep learning from the past
Better watch out where I tread
Might end up on my arse

Must face up to reality
At least try to be strong
To grow old with some dignity
But inside forever young.

I’m still here - Tony Robert

Reclining in my comfy chair
Softly dozing without a care
Everyone asks “How are you”
I sometimes smile and I laugh too

Carers come to check I’m okay
Regular visits 3 times a day
People always in and out
“I’m still here” I want to shout

“Have you eaten, been to the loo?”
They want to know everything I do
They sometimes think that I’m not trying
But all this effort is very tiring

I maybe taking a bit too long
But these days I don’t feel so strong
Used to labour all the day
Milking cows, baling hay

Worked from dawn until sunset
Farm works hard, there’s no rest
Loved being in the open air
Fit and healthy with love to share

Raised a family the best I could
Taught them to be honest and good
Now I’m old and not so agile
They can see I’m a little bit fragile

Good old Dad they often say
He made us what we are today
And they seem so very glad
To have a loving, caring Dad

I can’t respond but I hear
And sometimes shed a silent tear
I know how much they care you know
If only I could tell them so

My family are really good to me
It’s the way that it should be
A seed once planted starts to grow
Remember, you reap what you sow.

Write A Poem - Tony Robert

You’ve got to write a poem
That’s what they say
Just one worry
Better hurry
The deadline’s on Saturday

You should enter the Eisteddfod
It’ll be a bit of fun
Write the odd line
That’ll do fine
Try to get it done

But how to write a poem
Think up the clever rhyme
Make it scan
That’s the plan
I’m running out of time

Now the clock is ticking
Need some inspiration
Must be dim
Getting grim
This feeling of desperation

Suddenly it’s easy
The words just seem to flow
Line by line
Doing fine
I’m really on the go

On and on and on I write
Trying to impress
Think I’ve done it
Maybe won it
But perhaps I’m not the best

Others have been at it
Writing lots of lines
They’re really smart
Know the art
Of making better rhymes

Never mind at least I’ve tried
To do my very best
This writing game
Is hard to tame
Have I passed the test?

At last someone’s read it
Although it’s such a fudge
Had some giggles
At my squiggles
Well, you be the judge

All You Want - Tony Robert

Spectacular sunsets, moonlight and stuff
Stormy black skies when the weather’s rough
Dramatic scenes in your mind
When all you want is a cuddle

First lambs of spring, an awesome thing
Baby’s first talk, toddlers first walk
Wonderful memories in your mind
When all you want is a cuddle

Can’t seem to function
Crazy at times
Brain out to luncheon
Losing your mind
Total disorder
Wild despair
Just need to know
Somebody’s there

First light at sunrise
Start of the day
Long summer’s evenings
Sun slipping away
Beautiful days, wonderful nights
But all you want is a cuddle
