King of the Pond - Tony Gardner

King of our pond is a fish called 'Spot'
He's white with a blob of red on his Nutt.
He chases the others with sex on his mind
He's the randiest fish that you ever could find.
He chases the newts, and worries the frogs
Eats all the spawn with 'gobble, gobble gobs'
He has dozens of offspring, but it's sad to tell you
That he chases them all, and eats some of them too.
So it's easy to look at our nice placid pool
Lillies abloom on the surface so cool
But 'neath quiet ripples is played a cruel game
Where King Spot rules in his ruthless domain.

Fish - John E Blaise

Today's poem is a "Golden Oldie" and was originally published here in June 2012

Kippers on the breakfast table
Sardines gridlocked nose to tail
Salmon smoked not cured
Sharks on loan from Seaworld
Rainbow trout skate on thin ice
Searching for pots of gold
Codpiece worn below the waist
Monkfish swim to the sermon in haste
Pike staff the factory floor
Soles always down trodden so poor
Chubb swimming so safely in the loch
Conger eels dance in a line
Shoals of minnows everywhere
Carp complain and swear
But there's a ray of light, some hope
And quite a few Red Herrings!

Sardines in Portugal - Andrew Barham

Today's poem is a "Golden Oldie" and was originally published here in January 2012

Sardines in Portugal,
Sardines in the Sea
Sardines on the beach
Going straight into my tummy!

Sardines massing
Sardines in a school
Sardines chased by dolphins
Because Sardines really rule!

Sardines in Cornwall?
Sardines in a boat
Sardines are pilchards
Sliding down my throat!

Andrew Barham
