Something Changed - Lyndon Queripel

Something changed
I don’t know why
I don’t know where or when
Something changed
I don’t know how
But it was different then

Something changed
I don’t know what
But I know it’s true
Something changed
It’s not the same
Was it me or was it you ?

One Knee - Diane Scantlebury

One knee’s sore from kneeling
We used to give applause,
We still perform the actions
But no one remembers the cause,
There’s a personal tragedy
Behind every sensational line,
Our eyes skim over death and injustice
We’ve become atrocity blind,
One knee’s sore from kneeling
What’s the point?
Do we really care about the cause?
When nothing changes,
Do we have to keep up the applause?

Making Your Mind Up - Becky Hall

A numerous, moment by moment, daily ritual,
automatic, or considered
decisions are personal;
stamped as our own.

Truth can be in short supply
when revealed, could be denied,
presumptions we must set aside
let facts, not rumours, in our minds, reside.
Whispered in our ears
played out before our eyes,
lies acquire a myriad of disguise
lurking in our peripheral vision
intention; to cause division.

What then should we do
when faced with a decision or two?
let our moral compass guide,
be willing to listen to another view,
don't just accept; question,
information accumulate-diverse providers assimilate,
we may find the track of truth arrives at an unexpected destination
delivers us to a different platform,
after making our mind up.

Long Time Passes - Lyndon Queripel

I’m sure I’ve seen your face before
But your name has slipped my mind
So I’m going to look in my book
Just to see what I can find

I’m sure I’ve seen your face before
But I can’t remember when
I try to free my memory
Every now and then

Long time passes
But I’d never forget if we met
Long time passes
You bet I’m not out of debt yet

I’m sure I’ve seen your face before
Now I don’t mean to stare
A shadow cast from the past
When the Sun was there to share

I’m sure I’ve seen your face before
It’s another mystery
Make no mistake I give and take
But you won’t remember me.

The Mask - Kate Gallienne

Have we met? For I think I know you. A familiar face that I recall
I know that smile and those big brown eyes. I’m sure you help me when down I fall
Why then do you appear distant? With a smile painted thick like a clown
Your eyes are open but do not see me, always flitting or looking down

I cannot ask you how you feel, as I fear I don’t have the time
If you started to express what’s real, what’s buried deep in your mind
Your protective mask keeps you safe inside, never showing the naked truth
Afraid to look behind those eyes, preferring to believe than seek for proof

Looking deeper though and closer still, the reflection doesn’t lie
For it is not you, it is actually me, through the mirror I watch myself cry
To the outside world I am someone else, somebody I’m really not
Portraying to others that all is fine, when inside fear is all that I’ve got

If I wear a smile others smile back, confirming all is well
If I look down or ill at ease, my true feelings they would tell
I cannot bear their sympathy, or their saddened sorrowful eyes
For they reflect the truth to me, that something is wrong deep inside

If this happens my tears won't stop. I’d be crying the whole year through
For there’s no release and no let up, never knowing what to do
So I apply the makeup day upon day, hiding the lines on my face
Hoping no one can see the real me, for like me, they’d see a disgrace.

The Riddler - Tony Bradley

I don't think I'm a proper poet
I abhorred the academic aspects of school
I found it dire, and disguised my dimness
by being belligerent and acting the fool.

I don't act the fool now, time is too precious
in a way, all my jokes have long been said
I'm the clown, now, who's missed out really
there's a load of stuff now, way over my head.

I know it's horses for courses
and even favourites don't pocket the lot
but I wonder if I hadn't been lazy, and blinkered
how different my own course through life would have got.

Sometimes ? You'll reach a crossroads in your life,
To the left ? the grass seems greener,
To the right ? unwanted strife ?
You can't continue straight ahead ?
You're unable to U-Turn ?
You're standing at a crossroads,
and your "choices" seem to "burn" ?
These are just the "shattered signs"
of the fragile human mind !!
We forget, sometimes, the simple truth -
"Be Good, Have Fun, Be Kind" !!

Be careful when you choose your route,
Apply those "Golden Rules"
A road walked any other way ?
Is a path that's trod by fools !!

Sometimes ? it's hard to do what's right,
and that awkward question ? "begs" -
"Can you make an omelette,
without the use of broken eggs ?"
In reality ? That question makes "A crossroad within choice" !!
In reality ? we simply need to seek our calmer "inner voice"...

The answer ?
discard all questions "at the crossroads in your mind",
it doesn't matter which route you choose !!
Just "Be Good" - "Have Fun" - "Be Kind" !!

Broken Arrows - Lyndon Queripel

Broken arrows on the ground
Make me feel like turning ‘round
The hills look dark and cold
Broken dreams, ghosts of the night
Sunset shadows and tricks of light
No wonder the thunder rolled

Well they’ve taken away the trees
Where I can’t even guess
Yes, they’ve taken away the trees
And left me in a wilderness

Broken borders and blinded eyes
It took such a long time to realise
All that glitters is not gold
Broken dance of a highway child
Through fields of fire, running wild
His spirit is uncontrolled

Well they’ve taken away the trees
Where I can’t even guess
Yes, they’ve taken away the trees
And left me in a wilderness

Broken heart at Wounded Knee
Scattered feathers through history
Where truth is bought and sold
Broken promises and pale faced lies
With reservations in thin disguise
What does the future hold ?
