I can’t concentrate this morning, on my work, my poetry
There’s 4 cowboy builders, banging next door
I’m going round, with Harry, and one-eyed Bert
I’ve got some rope, we’ll string up all four.

Empty Nest - John Carré Buchanan
And now they've gone.
Where the stairs thundered,
silence.
Where guitars or music blared,
quiet.
The chatter at the table,
gone.
Excited voices through ceilings,
hushed.
The summons from the kitchen
not needed.
The slammed door,
the morning rush,
the toilet flush,
stilled.
I sit and wonder
the cacophony of
twenty one years
gone.

Silent Thought - Diane Scantlebury
How wonderful the sound
Of near silence
So peaceful, so calm
So tranquil
You can almost feel
Your thoughts
Traversing, transcending
Floating upwards
To that imaginary bubble
Above your head
No brash, sparkly light bulb moment
But pure, translucent thought
So soft you can hear
It whisper
Close your eyes now
Be at peace
And rest.
