Sanctity - Jude Neale
Baby’s in the cradle
because you
put her there, buddy.
While mommy cried, no
more subdividing my body
into plots, then setting up house.
Selling our uterus for votes,
and using moral superiority
as your shield.
You were a thief in the night.
Laying claim to our bodies
with a flourish of the pen,
that cut through our choice,
to render the impossible, possible.
You who have no place
in our reproductive biography.
We shout like a black cloud
of crows, to get off of our land—
or we’ll leave the dishes and children,
the cooking and tending,
the factories and hospitals,
nursing homes and banks,
schools and prisons,
ghettos and suburbs behind.
All those places that are held
together by the glue of our kindness,
will whither and die. And throwing
nice aside for a moment
let It be said that
our biggest enemy
is simply shaking our heads,
instead of plunging
into a battle
for the sanctity
of our own bloody lives.

Tamara Lich - Kathy Figueroa
Tamara Lich is like Canada’s
Very own Joan of Arc
Though she didn’t lead soldiers to battle
But truckers to Ottawa to park
Where they were met with vitriol
Of the most calumnious kind
When a Liberal honcho to talk to
Was what they had hoped to find
The people longed to be heard
To make their concerns known
But for “mandated” impacts on their lives
Rude political disregard was shown
The truckers were defamed as “terrorists”
Lies were disseminated far and wide
And the person occupying Canada’s main office
Actually chose to run and hide
Similar to the men
Who declared Joan of Arc a witch
So have Liberal Parliamentarians
Reviled brave Tamara Lich
Though they can’t just seize her
And burn her at the stake
They can level charges of dubious merit
...Some possibly even fake
So, here’s to Tamara Lich
May she ever be brave and strong!
Canada, people still stand on guard for thee
Though some politicians pretend it’s wrong

Respect for Truckers - Kathy Figueroa
Respect for big rig Truckers
Kings of the Road
Who transport food to our stores
Load after load
Especially to the ones
Who must cross the border
...And have now resisted
The vaccine mandate order
On them, wary Canadians
Have a reliance
And a hope of success
For their defiance
...Of untested toxic jabs
Designed to modify human DNA
An experimental “treatment”
To make COVID-19 go away
But a treatment rife
With negative health impacts
Like myocarditis and blood clots
Which are now established facts
So, a salute to the Truckers
For standing their ground
May sanity once more prevail
Where it’s currently not found
Kathy Figueroa

Hundreds of articulated lorries, pickup trucks and cars rolled into Ottawa to protest against vaccine mandates and lockdowns. The “Freedom Convoy” began as a cohort of drivers protesting against a vaccine mandate for cross-border truckers imposed by Trudeau’s Liberal government.

The Last Days Of Freedom - Lyndon Queripel
The rules are taught in schools of thought
Signed and designed to read the mind
Ultra sonic sound, new programmes found
And frequencies bent from past to present
Are these the last days of freedom
Before we see the dark conspiracy
Are these the last rays of light
Before they disappear into the atmosphere
Now’s the time to block the future shock
Not to be slave to the deadly microwave
And surrounded by a fog of electro smog
As toxic clouds pass by the eye in the sky
Are these the last days of freedom
Before we are to be denied the key
Are these the last rays of hope
Before we’re all seen on the global screen
Voices overheard, recording every word
And needle points begin to pierce the skin
Taking over control of your heart and soul
A number in the queue for the zombie zoo
Are these the last days of freedom
Before we dare the bare truth to share
Are these the last rays of love
Before we all draw near to a life of fear?

Refuge - Stephen A. Roberts
Come to the refuge;
Shelter for a fortnight
Then stay awhile,
Come walk with me.
Free on the cliffs;
Where fern and egg-yolk flowered
Gorse never smelled
so sweet.
Where gulls screak;
Carefree, joyous
Shouts, as they wheel
High above our fears
And human concerns.

Gilead - Stephen A. Roberts
Is this the dawn of of Atwood’s Gilead?
The USA has gone completely mad
The nation that put Liberty on a pedestal
Has put her up against the wall
Green tears of rain run down her face
As she sees the Constitution debased
As the land of the free fights amongst itsel’
The defeated President won’t say farewell
With him we thought we’d seen it all...
...then he incites the storming of the Capitol
The would-be King of America has no shame
The beacon of democracy has gone up in flames

Solitude? I could get used to this - Tony Bradley
Hey, this isn't so bad, after all
Hasta la vista, babe, stay on yer bike
no more TV soaps , I'VE got the remote
I can flip channels as much as I like.
Now I brazenly swagger to the fridge
savage a sausage, or chomp at the cheese
maybe, instead of cooking, have a jam sandwich
I can eat EXACTLY what I please.
I can cash in the Co-op divi, or Christmas club
and completely waste the spoils
I can bath every day, with no-one to say
"You're going to lose all your essential oils . . ."

Freedom Road - Ian Duquemin
I walked along a country road
Where I met an unknown friend
He'd travelled many, many miles
His journey had no end
I said "I'd like to join you...
Just nod if you'll agree"
He whispered in a soft tone
"The road ahead is free"
I said "This may sound crazy...
But I don't know who I am!
No one seems to know me...
Not many give a damn"
My friend he looked me in the eyes
Said "You have a soul that's true...
The only friend you need right now...
Is one that walks with you"
I listened to the silence
As if to ease my mind
I'd come in search of freedom
A place so hard to find
While heading t'wards the setting sun
The sky above turned red
"If you wake to see it rise again...
You're there!" my new friend said
We came upon a mountain
My feet were worn and tired
My eyes looked to the summit
I felt instantly inspired
The steps that raised us skyward
Left footprints on the ground
"We'll leave them there" my good friend said
"For others freedom bound"
And when we reached the heavens
We gazed upon our miles
Our journey ended silently
A hug, a nod, and smiles
He carried on his own way
We'll meet again sometime
Until then I shall journey on
This freedom road of mine

Lament - Richard Fleming
(Paris, 2015)
Ice petals on the blackthorn bow,
in twilight, masquerade as white
but it will never blossom now.
The world is slipping into night.
Weep for the last-extinguished light.
For generations to be born
into a world without birth-right,
for darkness, fast approaching, mourn.
Weep for the last-extinguished light.
Grieve for the final, breaking wave
that slips away, the bird in flight
that falls to earth, the hungry grave.
The world is slipping into night.
Tears in the grey, relentless rain
resemble signatures we write
on farewell notes imbued with pain
Weep for the last-extinguished light.
Lament the sharpness of the blade,
the flesh, so vulnerable and slight,
the future plans so rashly made.
The world is slipping into night.
We must stand firm, repudiate
the bullet in its ghastly flight,
the torrent of extremist hate.
The world is slipping into night.
Weep for the last-extinguished light.

Freedom - Stephen A. Roberts
Freedom from the crooked cross
The Field Grey unwanted boss
Was Guernsey’s gain and Hitler’s loss
Though he didn't live to pay
The coward blew himself away
Before Guernsey’s Liberation day
Freedom came in '45
The landing of Force 135
Found the locals still alive
And though a heavy price was paid
To have some decent sea walls made
The Guernsey donkey proudly brayed
Freedom seemed so simple then
A triumph over evil men
Sarnia free to thrive again
But time goes on and things have changed
Freedom's meaning is rearranged
To suit the modern day and age...
Freedom rocks - and how!
The 21st century sacred cow -
Money - is the Fuhrer now
End result of work's chore
Needed for a house and more
Of course you need a 4x4!
Freedom means a range of perks
For new fascists in their Mercs
As they get used to island quirks
Freedom to filter if you like
Near suicidal on a bike
Cyclist prays for a car tax hike
Freedom is sometimes wasted on these shores
Some drink 'til they can take no more
Then slump down drunk in a Pollet door
But no-one’s smoking with their beer
Freedom’s strange, even queer
Do you feel free to agree, mon vieux?

Watching From the Beach - Diane Scantlebury
Freedom from persecution is all they want
A chance of a new, safe life to live,
But duped by the avarice of traffickers
They’re abused and cast adrift
Onto the hostile sea in a leaky sieve,
Rejected and unwanted by every European nation
Is the certainty of a salt water grave
To be their only hope of liberation?
Desperation drives them to take a risk
That would border on insanity,
To seek refuge from war impoverished homes
And become today’s humanitarian tragedy,
How many more children will it take to drown?
While we stand and watch from the beach,
Because no one wants to put their hands in their pockets
Rescue will always be too late and just out of reach.

Earth Child - Chris Hudson
Before the wind kissed my feet
I tied ten blessings in a sheet
Cursed by a Crow, carried afar
I knew not where I left my care
Worries tangle like string, I spoke with Kings
Did tricks with rings and blessed their things
Finger and thumbs smudged the numbers
Which moon I stood under
- “Who knows?
- “Who cares?”
Echoes the gaudy dawn.

In Pursuit Of Freedom - Rosemary Slimm
I’m now in pursuit of freedom
Above most other things.
All those years of toil and slog
Now no alarm clock rings!
At school I was a good girl
Would pass my spelling test
Told “behave yourself, “don’t answer back” and
“Always do your best”.
No freedom during college years
Work on – forever higher
‘O’ levels first, then ‘A’ levels next
Keep going, still aspire.
Higher education then
With fun and studies mixed.
Three years later – that was it –
Real world, real job – all fixed.
And so the years have rolled on by
Wage slave my constant role.
Disillusion sometimes there
But some rewards for toil.
In personal life its been the same
Trial, error – some success.
Ups and downs – not much romance
Still chores, still work – no less.
Parents age and lose their power
To rule with guilt and fear
And as the years have rolled on by
They sadly disappear.
But now I’m free – well more or less
No-one to give me orders
With liberation now a fact –
Least till I need a warder!
I’ve been in pursuit of freedom
And mainly got it now
Will make each day a worthwhile time
At last - retired - wow!
