A Guernsey Carol - Tony Gardner
In fields above the bay of Saints this moonlit Christmas night
A donkey's old folk memories rekindle and take flight
To that first night
The blessedness of Christmas Day steals over all the land
Enveloping each tree and field, the cattle where they stand
With glory grand.
Then to a donkey in the fields came age old memories strong,
How brilliant was the sky that night, how sweet the angels song
In radiance hung
That night Christ came to save us all, a pauper yet a King
Poor shepherds came to honour Him, the Lord of Everything
While angels sing
A donkey brought the blessed pair the long and torturous way
And stayed beside them through their trials, until that won'drous day
When softly in the hay
Our Lord reposed, at last God's gift so precious and so true
Here amongst us, God on earth, The prophesy come true
Life for me and you
In fields above the bay of Saints this moonlit Christmas night
A donkey's old folk memories rekindle and take flight
To that first night
To that first Christmas night.

Thoughts on the war - Tony Gardner
The sun was peeping through the clouds
Every now and then.
The wind had died, the temperature
Was well above the 10
Pottering in the garden
Forking, planting, feeding and
I thought how lucky we were all
Living in a war free land
I thought of poor folk trapped and scared
In Russia's evil war
And wished that I could help someway
I pray, but should do more.
But I'll just keep planting Dahlia corms
And hope all turns well
That soon Ukraine will breathe once more
And Putin rots in Hell.

War
Rewind - Richard Fleming
Wind Time back. Rewind Time.
Make the struck towers rise from dust,
reconstruct themselves:
glass, concrete, girders, walls,
a huge jigsaw
interlocked,
complete again.
Lights come on, phones chirp like crickets.
In reconstructed work-stations,
fingers dance on keyboards again;
vending machines cough
then spew out pungent brew;
air-con sighs then resumes;
elevators ascend, descend;
video conferences resume mid-
sentence, emails beep,
digital clocks flicker
like quick, green lizards.
Wind Time back. Rewind Time.
Time restarts
as though it had never ended.
Hopes, innocence, daydreams, boredom:
all the mundane certainties of ordinary lives
are reaffirmed.
Shoes, handbags, mobile phones, flesh,
warped by intense heat:
these un-melt, re-form,
resume their former shapes.
The terrible, unearthly screams
subside.
Wind Time back. Rewind Time.
Backwards
the soft clouds drift;
birds fly in reverse.
Those grim death-planes,
stiletto-silver in the morning sun,
withdraw, like daggers, from the shattered towers,
whose twin glass skins, pristine again,
shimmer
like smooth, un-rippled water.

A Seagull's Prayer - Fred Brown
Today's poem is a "Golden Oldie" and was originally published here in August 2012
Footsteps fade on the sand runway
Through moon flight control and the tidal phase
Feathers shed from wayward courses
To new heights on the back of white horses
Spiralling round on thermals to heaven
Shores below left for dusk to redden
Crying laughter at the top of my voice
Till the oceans whisper without choice
Sail through me till my soul sings
With sunbeam wind-chimes under my wings
Breathe fluency into each wing flap
Till I soar with you over each mishap
Above dead suns, pink ice-sheets melting
Beyond bloated mountains, rainclouds pelting
To leave no trail of where I have flown
To let parted clouds be re-sewn
To lose trodden seashells to the tide
To live the rest of my life wide-eyed
Footsteps fade on the sand runway
Clear for landing on a brand new day

As We Travel Through Life - Julie Gallienne
Today's poem is a "Golden Oldie" and was originally published here in August 2012
God and Spirit
angels too
please listen when
we pray to you.
Bless our children
form above
bestow on them
all your love.
Sprinkle angel dust
in their eyes
to help them see the truth
not lies.
Show them the path
to follow
so their lives are fulfilled
not hollow.
Guardian angels
stay by their side
be there when needed
to rescue and guide.
As their lives progress
let choices unfold
a journey of adventure
a story to be told.
S o from the moment of birth
till the passing to spirit
live life to the full
don't waste a minute.

Meditation - Diane Scantlebury
So deep, I sink
Deep breath, inhale
Exhale, relax
Letting thoughts be still,
No sound inside my head
Let outside clamour,
Muffled noise
Unable to break in,
Deeper, I sink further
To a place of inner peace,
Conscious, yet unconscious,
Lifted and light
My body transported,
Finger tips and lips tingle
Eyes closed,
Breathe in, then out
Comfortable and chilled,
Almost asleep, but awake
I am aware of my surroundings,
Yet locked into
A warm, comforting sanctuary,
I don’t want to come back,
Until reluctantly my eyelids
Slowly flicker open,
Hello world
I’m still here.
