Today's poem is a "Golden Oldie" and was originally published here in March 2012
On the bewitched shores of Hesperia
You stand,
There, where dreams are drawn to reality,
Or life is renewed.
Shipwrecked, I can hardly see beyond you,
My Helen.
The Faustian pact I would broker
For one touch;
The slightest caress, glancing warmth
Too much;
Eros would explode forth bearing my heart,
still beating.
Untouchable upon the sands
Of all time,
I sacrifice all that is
All mine,
Selene's radiant silver beams
Reveal me:
A crystal silhouette,
Empty.
Without the lights that incandesce,
Within you.
I can not offer palaces nor
Paris,
I am the faithful servant
ever,
You the Titan, I the mortal, honest
and constant.
Now I look for fates guiding hand
to show,
We both in signs and portents we
would know,
That time has brought us here today,
to love, again.

Two In Hand - Alec Jackson
Those who see, recognise the bond;
Interlaced, they are stronger
these two, who stand almost sovereign
lifting each other high
amid up-drafts, so to fly.
Those who watch, understand the tie;
The fingers entwine
and the spaces between are filled
yet they are NOT the other.
A cumulus forte, borne of a unique fit.
Those who know, wait for the realised truth.
Both hands are capacious,
independent for themselves
but when made as one,
Are immovable.
And to those for whom hope seems distant, they are moved by the scene.
God knew well their images,
their purpose and need,
such did he create them;
mirror to each, the mirror.
Even so, for the two in hand...
this is but a transitory moment.
The 'now' between 'were' and 'will be'.
One grasps beyond this day
and one lingers in a wistful, hope deluded spirit.
The two, within, are apart.
All there is left? The dream;
The dream that weeps that such dreams should never exist.

Delight - Alec Jackson
The swifts are flying high today.
Is there something they know
that I do not?
They crest and dive; sharp 'chit chit' calls
dancing tidal riv'lets
of summer air.
Arcing, falling, skimming so low,
their forked tails racing past
and near miss me.
Barometers of soul and life,
inspiring maudlin songs
till the lights fade.
Yet delight croons through their bowed wings,
hearts lift and sing freely
o'er field and sea.

Atrophy: Ended & Begun - Alec Jackson
all signs of atrophy have abated,
the symptom; love, that coud be sated.
that we two should remain apart
will be less craft and more art,
to act this out, my Lear.
success? what I fear.
my hope to fail
to foresake,
ever,
ache.

Shanty - Alec Jackson
Have all the masted angels
braced their wings for flight?
Rainbow sprays of salty sea
cascade the purging bow
and damps our leading sail.
The eastern wind that swifts us
home to steadfast port
and the soft capstan dance,
drumming of the bodhran beat.
The main sail unfurls and family bound
by the warming breeze
while the song of a crooning sailor
seems low.

Pride - Alec Jackson
She is magnificent!
golden resplendence,
the matriarch huntress,
independent, wild queen.
Her poise belies her life,
those struggles hidden
by majestic action
of selfless giving.
Only now do we see
this holy creature
within context, without;
female, mother, beauty.
Aged with sagacity,
providence guides him:
his own stature measured
by exploit and venture.
This king knows inner calm,
understands this time
and has seen this venus;
he roars his offering.
The plains echo the call,
distant kings retort
but here with cautious pride
steps the gentle equal.
Both paths remain aloof
yet bound together
the noble beasts, so joined
by fate and destiny.
Alight with fired passions
these two obfuscate;
she, her brood protecting,
he, on her rejecting
Yet, dependent, they go
the pair are prideful
caring as one, and on
the padding roads are traced.

Wellspring - Alec Jackson
The Hole I sink
is to find Heav'ns fount,
to provide God's crops
with prickled heads for seed to mount.
It's shaft, infirm,
endures caving in,
so walls are sure stoned
to ensure liquid draughts within.
The task is long;
much fought through great trial,
when done, measured time
etched a grim determined smile.
And now life's Sun
draws bright fourishes
while I lift my cup
from the water that nourishes.

The Arcadian - Alec D. Jackson
Shall I forever be
named Strephon?
He that other herdsmen
laugh upon,
They, who live their days in
raucous venture.
Will Arcadian fields
grant succour
to one whose heart is true,
full candor,
or is fidelity
vainly nurtured?
I fear so, I know so,
but still...
The universe becomes
a bauble
when her sapphire eyes turn
greeting, smiling.
Yet all time is the price
in waiting
I give willing, freely.
Yet fleeting,
goes such melancholy span,
spun to an instant.

Twinkle Twinkle Little Star - Alec Jackson
Twinkle, twinkle, little star,
How I wonder what you are;
A million light-years from my sky,
Your flame still burning when mine must die.
But greater yet I incandesce,
A glow more potent than you possess,
For though my span of years is few,
My life, each day, is made anew.
And constant; giving; you may be,
My heart shall feel, my eyes shall see,
The love I pass, for whom I care,
I hold them close, a rare sweet fare
So glower, star, from your distant space,
Your beams across the darkness race,
To where I stood eons ago,
Looking up at you, that you might know.

Loving Mother - Alec Jackson.
The leggy blonde stands outside the pub,
Her glistening peroxide perm quivers, slightly,
A breeze strokes her thighs, a shiver.
She begins, strutting her stuff,
Forward, back,
Back, forward.
Virginal white lace smooths her body, pulled tight; a wonder bra.
Leggings cling, the chalice awaits,
The dowry, dry pleasure,
You know, love stuff,
Forward, back,
Back, forward.
Handbag bulges, a purse, make-up case,
hand mirror, fags, condoms, soap,
A few intimate things,
Photo of her kid,
Strut stuff,
Forward, back,
Back, forward.
Home; she checks her kid, caresses his brow,
hair out of eyes while sleep engulfs,
Purse full of cash, till her pimp comes,
Love, strut your stuff,
Stuff your strut, love.
Forward, back,
Back, forward.

The Universal Politic - Alec D. Jackson
Even were they able,
would the stars escape their celestial providences?
Would the planets and moons
race asunder, tetherless?
Why then must we deny
the path which destiny
has directed our feet to tread?
We, too, could fight
the politic of the universe,
colluding to bring both spheres within one orbit.
We, two, might reason,
against all reason,
with self denying perfidy
and betray our selves.
But, is cold logic
the only physic
that rules this night and day?
Tell me then,
star of stars,
can you not feel the yearning gravity?
If no,
then I also
will ignore the laws of motion
which pulled our worlds so near.
If no,
tell me to go,
to dream abroad of other
satellites and globes.
But if,
such words bare the stinging brand
of deception think on't.
Dare to risk,
to allow Phoebus himself,
a chance to guide our roads, perchance they join above.
Thus fate commands
the fires of night,
that they might traverse the skies in peace.
Just so,
God has spun the fabric of space,
to demand that
in indesputable fact,
each shall to each attract.

Ascribe - Alec Jackson
What God has forged you, a muse,
which life has scarred in cruel abuse?
I cannot stand where you are tall,
Venus, mother, love withall.
My eyes can but guess upon your form
from whence the beating heart was torn.
Yet auras glow incandescent hues
of the muse of mine you keep to you.
These words, I doubt, ascribe devotion
sublime and pure with keen precision,
but all thy issue, brood and heir,
will know this disciple; my muse, so fair.

Untitled - Alec D Jackson
Whisper quietly, lest we speak of love;
its tender touch, the lapping waves of summer sea.
Moon and star that urge the tides upon the shore, Diana’s fervent heart.
But now, I see, upon the crested spill
a bark bearing noble standard,
risen high upon mountain waves that arrogate the land,
insistent, endless,
crashing against the scarred cliffs.
Splintered, transmogrified rocks are cautiously made smooth.
From deep within this cupidinous ocean, can a sea change happen?
Will this faithful ship harbour safe within
the arms of the tortured bays,
to trade its cargo,
equal, fair and new?
Why then, an embargo,
bars the artisan who cares for the heart of this potent land?
Why steel to meet the giving?
With fearful caution greeting?
I know and understand from where such embassy springs;
not all aid and council hides beneath duplicitous wings...
For the seafaring steward is keeper of yet another dream,
upon the beach where soil and water trace,
where city, town and village flourish and royalty nurtures the knave and maid.
When tower and cottage are made anew
from wond’rous granite, to aspire and grow.
